Color Script

Here's the color script.  Parts of it could be stronger... but let me know what you think.  I may need to go back and rework some of it.  I basically just painted a color reference for every time that the storyboards changed scenes/angles.  This was the first time I've attempted a color script, so I didn't feel like I knew what I was doing sometimes. The most important part of the color script is that the values all read clearly, it's kept simple, and that it aids in the storytelling.  The values get kind of got muddied in some places so I had to make a few minor adjustments (like adding grass behind the pigeon in box 7, but that can change. I was just experiementing).

  1. Alyssa you're freakin' talented. I got chills when I saw these. They're beautiful. Good job :)

My only thought is the color of the sky. Is it too...blue? I guess the term would be 'saturated.' Is the sky too saturated?

    1. I'm glad you mentioned the sky. I wondered the same thing... but I didn't know if I had just been staring at it for too long. I think it is too saturated... or something is wonky with the value. It's an easy fix either way.

  2. You're fantastic girl. These look great. :)

One thing that bothered me when I first was looking through was the middle panel 2nd row down. I feel like the pigeon and the bench are fighting for attention. Maybe that isn't a value problem but a compositional one. But the value of the pigeon and the bench are super close as well. Nice work though. I especially like the explosion one.

    1. Garrett brings up a good point. Also, is the grey of the pigeon too similar to the grey of the ground? Should there be more contrast between them? (pigeon lighter, ground darker or vice versa)

    2. I agree with Garrett on that one particular panel. We can change the angle or colors to fix that problem. And Wes you bring up a good point, one that I struggled with a lot during the color script. I played around with the ground being lighter or darker but the problem I kept running into was that it started attracting too much attention to itself when the value was pushed. What I have been thinking recently is that it might not be a bad idea to get rid of the cobblestones- just make it a solid gray... that way the shapes on the ground wouldn't also be competing against the pigeon. Another option would be to change the pigeon- make it a variety that is super dark/mostly black. What do you think of that idea? The only reason I hesitate to do that though is that we don't necessarily want the pigeon looking evil.. just dumb, and I think making it dark with the orange eyes is too sinister.

  3. Hahahaha, yah... we don't want a satanic pigeon. I'm no racist, but I don't think we'll need a black pigeon.

Beyond that, I actually don't know what to do. Maybe we're obsessing over the colors. Your eye will be drawn to the pigeon anyway, because it's moving...right? Maybe just a slight adjustment is all we need. (pigeon just a tad darker, cobblestones just a tad lighter...?)

Now regarding the cobblestones, I'm okay with getting rid of 'em but I think they look really cool and add a lot to the environment.
